On Thursday, Oct. 22, the varsity tennis team played against Lake Travis at Westwood. The match was tense, but the Warriors pulled through and won 10-8, clinching the area title.

The match was originally scheduled for the day before, but due to rainy weather, the team only got through doubles on Wednesday. The rest of the match was pushed to Thursday, when they finished playing singles.

The rain also threatened to cancel the Thursday match. However, it never got worse than a sprinkle, so the match was able to proceed. Not only was there a threat of raining out the game, but the competition was fierce.

“The match was intense and my heart was beating fast the whole time,” Jasmine Filut ‘17 said. “We beat the roudiest (sic) team in Texas and it felt really good. During the last match when our teammate won the whole team ran on the court and it immediately started raining and it felt like a movie moment.”

Sarang Janakiraman ‘16 felt the pressure when he played the tie breaker.

“The score when I went on was 7,” Janakiraman said. “We all had really close matches and we needed one more match to win. In my tie breaker it was one of the most emotional moments in my life. In the tiebreak I carried the momentum, and I had a match point at 9-8. We won and my whole team ran on the court, I was in huge tears as the emotional impact of the team was just too big. I’m still in shock. It’s cheesy, but this is really a dream come true.”

The enthusiasm of the team was incredible, and there was lots of cheering and team spirit.

“My team played super well just watching the energy build from match to match,” Eric Chen ‘16 said. “There was so much team energy and it was just cool to see my team come together when it really mattered. This year we managed to out-cheer [our opponents], which doesn’t usually happen.”

The varsity tennis team will be going to regionals in Mansfield this weekend. Be sure to wish them good luck!
