With a powerful windup Rachana Akkineni ‘26 gets ready to hit a forehand during her singles match. The Warriors came into the game on a 5 game win streak and looked to extend that to six games.

On Wednesday, Sept. 13, the varsity tennis team matched up against the Round Rock High School Dragons going head to head with their district rivals. The Warriors extended their winning streak to six games on the season, showcasing their best skills on the court. The game ended with strong performances from both teams, but it was Westwood that ultimately claimed victory with a score of 18-1.

In the girls’ doubles division, the duo of Zoe Chen ‘25 and Evelyn Castellani ‘24 secured victory with a score of 8-4. Chen’s standout performance continued into the girls’ singles where she sealed her victory with an 8-1 scoreline.

“I didn’t play my best, but I’m still glad that we’re still able to pull up the win,” Castellani said. “I’m a senior, so I’ve been here for a while. I don’t normally play a lot, so it was fun to play this time. I’m still excited because I think we will go far this year and I think it will be good.”

On the boy’s side, Gavin Wang ’27 won 8-1 in his singles match. Wang fully showcased his skills and agility on the court, earning praise from his teammates and coaches.

“I did great,” Wang said. “I had to figure out what my opponent’s weaknesses were and try to think how I improve”

Demonstrating their teamwork, Jackson Nguyen ‘26 and Nilan Nathan ’26 in the boys’ doubles section won with a score of 8-3. Their remarkable chemistry played a big role in their victory, crushing the Dragons.

Varsity Tennis will play at the Vandergrift Tennis courts against their rivals the Vipers on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 4:00 pm.
