Round Rock Dragons Defeat JV Boys 39-38


The JV boys’ basketball team played a tense game against the Round Rock Dragons on Tuesday, Jan. 19. Although the boys lost by one point, players were still content with the game.

The first quarter started with a two point lead for the Warriors, however the Dragons soon caught up with a two-pointer of their own. Dennis Meaux ‘17 helped to keep the ball in their hands, as well as the rest of the team who worked together to score several points. The Warriors continued to play with determined mindsets, ending the first quarter with a generous lead.

In the second quarter, the Warriors were still in the lead, at one point having a 13 point gap. Beau Brown ‘17 even dove to the floor to catch the ball and passed it to Lucas Madden ‘17 who was able to score three points.

The quarter ended with the tension starting to rise not only among the players on the court but also in the audience. By halftime, the point gap between the two teams slimmed to 22-18.

The third quarter began with a two-pointer from Pete Uhlenhop ‘17 and an even closer tie in the score, however the Warriors were still able to pull through and stay in the lead. This time, the point gap lowered to two points, bringing the audience and players on the sideline to the edges of their seats.

Within thirty seconds of the last quarter, the score was eventually tied 26-26. Pressure was coursing through the room and the last few minutes would determine the winner. As time was quickly running out, players gave it their all as they tried to bring up the score when the Dragons managed to score several two-pointers. In the last two minutes, the score was 28-31, with the Dragons in the lead, and the players became anxious. Suddenly, Daniel Victor ‘18 scored a three-pointer bringing the audience into a load roar of relief and newfound hope into beating the Dragons. With the remaining two minutes left, the Warriors were able to bring the score to 32-33.

With fifty seconds left,the score was brought to 35-38. The boys furiously played to tie the score and were able to gain three more points. By then the audience was watching the game with nervous eyes, and the players were carrying the team’s fate on their shoulders. With 25 seconds on the clock, the score was 38-39, and only two more points would bring the Warriors a win. The game however ended unfortunately in the Dragons’ favor with a one point difference.

“There’s no time to worry about the score, we had to be aggressive and win it,” Lucas Madden ‘17 said. “Even though we played the hardest it was our best.”
