Young Life Meetings to Resume Sept. 26

Young Life will be having a regular club meeting on Sept. 26 at 7:57 at Caffe Yolly. Additionally, the organization will be having a color war on Oct. 3 at Harper Park, near Grisham Middle School.

Young Life is a non-profit organization that helps teens grow in their spiritual life through weekly club meetings, small groups, and retreats. Groups of about 15 high school students from each grade are paired with two college student leaders who guide them and help them connect with their faith.

Meetings are held every Monday at Caffe Yolly where there is singing, dancing, and skits that connect to the week’s Bible reading. The night is started off with games, challenges, and prizes. After settling down from the fun, a leader will come up to the front of the crowd, read a Bible passage, and then tell a personal, relatable story.

“What I like most about club is you can grab any stranger and they can feel a part of something,” Grant Vernon ‘19 said. “If you ever need a friend or don’t feel included, Young Life is a place for you to have a purpose and make new friends.”

Later in the week, leaders choose a day to meet up with their teens in small groups called Campaigners. Students have the opportunity to learn more about their faith in a small Bible study. Divided into groups of the same gender and grade, the leaders explain a few Bible verses that go along with the overall lesson for the week. These meetings can be at a student’s house or somewhere public, such as Starbucks.

“Campaigners is a place where just me and the girls in my grade can connect and go deeper into God,” Cat Morrice ‘17 said. “It is a different opportunity to know your leader and for them to know you. It is a safe space to talk, be open and love Jesus.”
