A new logo designed by juniors Ashlea Harmon and Tanner Robertson will be featured in “Lucky Puppy Club,” a start up dog wash, boarder, and day care company.

Vicky Tarver, advanced graphic design teacher, pitched the idea of having her students create some designs that the company owner could choose from.

“He loved it because he loves kids and he thought that would a great opportunity for them,” Ms. Tarver said.

There were originally two designs, one text and one illustration, chosen by the owner that were eventually combined into the finished product.

“It’s pretty cool and the colors worked really well,” Robertson said. “Ashlea had some really good looking text that looked professional and we just put it together and it turned out really good.”

The project started as a competition among the class. Gift cards were offered to the winning designer, however, the distribution and recognition of their work was also a benefit.

“The kids were excited that they got the opportunity and the winners are so excited to get to see it up knowing that cars are going to see it,” Ms. Tarver said. “They’re just going, ‘When are the banners going up? When are the banners going up?’”

According to Ms. Tarver, it wasn’t just a busy work project for the students. It was “meaningful.”

“It was fun,” Robertson said. “It’s pretty cool knowing that something we created is part of a company.”

While the logo itself is now finished, there is still a lot of work being put into the project.

“We still have to design business cards, websites, and every kind of media for his business so that’s where we are right now,” Harmon said.

Currently, the entire advanced graphic design class has been working on business cards for the company.

“We’re making all kinds of different marketing banners and things like that,” Harmon said. “[The class is] working with our logo, our color scheme, and trying to get that all together.”

The project will likely lead to new real world projects relevant to the graphic design class.

“It’s kind of a unique situation for them and I hope to find more projects like this,” Ms. Tarver said.
