In a nail-biting game against the Round Rock Dragons, the Lady Warriors won by only one point at their home court. Going into overtime, the Warriors finished 39-38.

The first shot of the game by Taylor Cason ‘20 put the Warriors on the board 2-0. Although the team’s offense started slow, they kept the lead until the second quarter which ended 20-13. By the second half, the Warriors came back with free throws and a three-pointer shot my Riley Hammock ‘20. They were now down by one (30-29). Baskets were made back and forth by both teams but with 1:22 left in the game, Cason tied the score at 33-33. Their defense held the Dragons and advanced to overtime — a chance for the Warriors to redeem themselves. With 28 seconds left on the clock, the Warriors lead 39-37. The Dragons had the opportunity to gain two points with free throws, but the shooter missed one and ended the game 39-38 with a miraculous win by the JV team.

“The team has improved greatly,” coach Kim Payton said after the game. “We still have work to do on our defense, but offensively we are executing better than we ever have. For this game, we struggled in the beginning and we let our emotions get the best of us, but again our offense excelled.”

The JV team will face off against the Pflugerville Panthers on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at 5:30 at Pflugerville high school.
