Varsity Girls’ Basketball Falls Short to Hendrickson in Third Round of Playoffs

Tuesday, Feb. 20 marked the third round of playoffs for the Lady Warriors at the Delco Center against the Hendrickson Hawks. Unfortunately, round advancement went to the Hawks when a layup was executed by an opposing team member, ultimately taking the Warriors’ lead and ended the match 60-59. The crowd added to the overall importance of the night with constant approval and disapproval with referees calls, player interaction, and overall plays.    

The game as a whole was very close, with constant back and forth from both teams. The first quarter went to the Lady Warriors 11-10, as well as second which ended 29-27. To keep their lead, Allyah Beaty ‘18 made a staggering amount of free throws, along with three-pointers and layups made by Meaghan Hendricks ‘18, McKenna Lindey ‘18, and Kenzie Beckham ‘21.

The second half of the game was barely in favor of the Hawks, with third quarter finishing at 45-43. There were a few tumbles, one of which took Annalise Galliguez ‘19 out of the game for the night and caused Beaty to sit out several plays. During the fourth quarter, there were a few missed opportunities. With one minute left in the game, the score was tied 58-58. Makayla Coy ‘19 made free throw after a timeout was called. Five seconds on the clock and the final point was made for the Hawks that won them the game.

“I think defense should improve, because coming back [for the next playoff season], they will have of a lot of offensive threats,” Hendricks said. “In order to beat the other teams in our district that keeps getting bigger and bigger, they’re going to have to up the defense if they want to make playoffs again next year.”

The Lady Warriors finished their overall season 25-10 and placed third in district with a district record of 8-4. Their last game, along with their season, was suspenseful all the way through.
