A mist had settled on the field at Round Rock High School on Tuesday, Feb 13. The cold however, had no effect on the soccer game between the Warriors’ infamous rivals, the Round Rock Dragons.

The first quarter started in Westwood’s favor. Only 13 minutes in, Oliver Harris ‘18 scored a goal after Phillip Richardson ‘20 threw in the ball — this was Harris’s third goal of the season. To follow up, there were seven attempted goals by various players such as Richardson, Harris, Caden Popps ‘18, Jack Elliott ‘19, and Nikola Djordjevic ‘21. There were multiple tumbles, one of which resulted in a Round Rock player being switched out due to a collision. They had switched out a player not long before as well.

The second half commenced with two head passes and two nearly successful assists, one of which was a shot attempt, and a call from the referee when Evan Moreno ‘18 fell at the hands of an opposing team member. With almost half of the second half over, stakes were high. The ball was primarily where the Warriors needed it to be, however no goals were made. A staggering amount of goals were attempted by Popps, followed by Hilton Pineda ‘18. Pineda was switched in for Eduardo Rodriguez ‘19, but ultimately had to be switched out because an injury sustained by an attempted goal. The game ended 1-0 but not without one more switch and a few head passes.

“The pressure of being so close but not quite there makes it hard to play smart and it’s also very disappointing to not make any goals after a 80 minute period. At least we pulled through in the end,” Popps said.

The boys will be facing off on Friday, Feb. 16 against the Pflugerville Panthers at 7:45 p.m.. Go Wood.
