On Tuesday, Feb. 13, the Lady Warriors pulled out a 2-2 tie for their district game against the Round Rock Dragons. The Lady Warriors continue to maintain their five-year undefeated home game streak by tying the Dragons in a close game.

“Before the game I was really nervous because I’m a freshman and last game I missed a shot so I was nervous I was going to make a mistake,” Eve Kubala said ‘21. “But I was also really excited because I had the opportunity to make a difference.”

The first half started with strong attacks by Autumn Koch ‘19 and Madison Larrea ‘18, giving the Lady Warriors confidence. About half way through the first half with 19:36 left on the clock, the Dragons scored. The Lady Warriors continued to fight hard with strong distribution in the center of the field from Leah Martinez ‘19 and Ella Concannon ‘18. With 3:24 left on the clock Hailey Martinez ‘21 was fouled inside the 18-yard box, giving the Warriors a chance to tie the game before the end of the half. Concannon stepped up to take the penalty kick and placed her shot in the bottom right corner of the goal, tying up the game 1-1 as the half came to a finish.

Starting the second half, both the Lady Warriors and the Dragons took several shots, switching from attacking to defending very quickly. With strong defense from both teams the game stayed tied. With five minutes left on the clock the Dragons were given a penalty kick and scored, causing the Dragons to lead by one. With five minutes left the Warriors pushed hard and gave all their effort into their attack, hoping to tie up the game quickly. Two minutes later, Leah Martinez ‘19 took a corner kick which Eve Kubala ‘21 received and made the shot. The Lady Warriors tied once again and secured their undefeated home game streak.

“It felt really awesome to do something for my team so it didn’t just mean a lot for me to score, but it was also a big deal for the team to keep our undefeated home game streak,” Kubala said.
