To the relief of Austin citizens,  the city-wide boil water notice was lifted on Tuesday, Feb. 8. The news of the notice came on Saturday, Feb. 5 in what was described as an employee mistake at the Ullrich Water Treatment Plant. Greg Meszaros, the director of Austin Water, resigned on Friday, Feb. 11 following the incident.

“I take full responsibility for any shortcomings at the utility this past week. I also take pride in our many accomplishments,” Meszaros said.

The mistake at the plant was causing high turbidity in water samples, meaning that the water was less clear than normal and might have had sediment floating in it. The boil water notice is not the first time that Austin has suffered from water-related issues in the past few years; the city briefly lost water during the winter storm in 2021.
