On Friday, Sept. 2, the boys water polo participated in a day-long tournament against several different schools. The team finished the tournament 3-0.

Starting off with Round Rock,  the initial goal was scored within the first minute by Cole Osborn ‘25. Harrison Vaughn ‘26, Miles Pischetsrieder ‘25, and Zachary Hobbs ‘25 had consistent possession of the ball, preventing Round Rock from stealing and taking the lead. Freddy Browarski ‘24 and Jack Benveniste ‘24 scored goals in the fourth quarter, and Osborn made four saves, securing the Warrior’s place in first. The final score came out to 15-14, locking in Westwood as the winner.

“The hardest part about Friday was the game against Round Rock,” Osborn said. “They played a very hard defense but we managed to find the cracks in their wall to ultimately win the game.”

The second game was played against Bryan, with Osborn successfully blocking every goal attempt made by the opposing team. Westwood took on the challenging game with full force, resulting in a 14-0 win.

During the final game of the tournament, the Warriors played Cedar Ridge. Eight warriors scored and Caden Bradford ‘26 led the defense in steals.

This is the team’s first year as a UIL sport, and players believe it is shaping up to be a good season.

“The fight from the team this weekend was absolutely amazing.,” Browarski ‘24 said. “All of our guys had huge improvements from our game last week, and it showed through how they played for these three games and I couldn’t be more proud of them. ”

The team will compete next in the  Round Robin tournament taking place on Saturday, Sept. 24 at the new RRISD aquatic center on the Cedar Ridge campus.
