When walking through the halls of Westwood for the first time, Environmental and Health Science teacher Ms. Eve Kenyon was ready to learn something new. Ms. Kenyon is teaching AP Environmental Science, Biomedical Innovations, and Medical Terminology for the first time this year.

An alumni of Texas A&M, Ms. Kenyon originally went to college with the dream of becoming a veterinarian. However, after sitting through an hour of Intro to Teaching, she had a change of heart.

“I kind of fell in love with [both] the idea of teaching and science at college, and [I] kind of combined those together,” Ms. Kenyon said. “[I became] passionate about wanting to teach science.”

Ms. Kenyon got her bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in Secondary Education. After graduating, she taught Biology at Georgetown High School for two years before coming to Westwood.

“I came to Westwood because it just seemed like a great learning environment, and the students here are very motivated,” Ms. Kenyon said. “I wanted to work with students who were just as motivated to learn from me as I was to teach them.”

This year, Ms. Kenyon aims to accomplish two goals, to make her classroom feel safe for her students, and to get better at teaching the subjects she loves.

“I am teaching all new classes so a lot of it is learning. I am hoping that while I’m teaching [my students] and [they’re] learning, I’m also learning, so that I can do better for my students in the future,” Ms. Kenyon said.

Overall, Ms. Kenyon is excited for this school year, and looking forward to teaching the subjects she loves.
