Throughout a long journey in teaching, Ms. Robyn Boegel’s sincere dedication towards her students has persisted in her 23 years of experience as an educator. Joining the Westwood community as a new assistant principal, Ms. Boegel looks forward to the new semester.
Following her graduation from Texas State University with a masters degree in Education, Ms. Boegel moved to Austin. After meeting a college friend’s sibling with special needs, she began working to open up a new realm of learning possibilities with him and his family. This inspired her to become a special education teacher, kick-starting her career in education.
“[I] really enjoyed helping that student and their family [to] just learn new things and be able to explore the world in a way that he wasn’t always able to do independently,” Ms. Boegel said.
Utilizing her experience working in alternative education, Ms. Boegel hopes to bring to the table a fresh viewpoint on how to assist Westwood’s students.
“I think that Westwood has a brilliant capacity at supporting our very high academic achievers,” Ms. Boegel said. “My hope is that I can bring some new ideas to help with students who maybe don’t fit into that traditional school model all the time.”
Not only does Ms. Boegel hope to explore methods from past years of personal work experience to encourage the students, she also aspires to gain further educational experience at Westwood. Sensing the passionate academic environment, she hopes to branch out to work with a large variety of students of different mentalities.
“The things that I think I can bring to Westwood are sort of the opposite of what I hope to learn from Westwood,” Ms. Boegel said. “I’m really hoping to learn some of the strategies and skills [in promoting a balanced home life – school life mindset] and just the general supports for students that have these high-achieving academic interests.”
Starting off the coming school year with some outlined, projected goals, Ms. Boegel hopes to provide a reliable, welcoming environment for any student who needs it.
“I want Westwood students to know my door is always open,” Ms. Boegel said. “I want to be here to help in whatever way I can. I don’t always have the answer, but I promise to work really hard to find it.”
