Annual Texas Book Festival Brings Authors and Readers Together

Join book lovers from all over the state of Texas on Oct. 17 and 18 for the twentieth anniversary of the Texas Book Festival. Held at the State Capitol and its surrounding grounds, the festival allows attendees to purchase books, attend signings, and eat at food vendors.

The Festival will host over 300 authors, who specialize in books for all ages and genres, fiction and nonfiction alike. Books by these authors will be available for purchase in Book Festival Sales Tents. Authors will be available for signings at the end of their sessions, and Young Adult authors will sign books in the Main Book Signing Tent. Proceeds from the Festival weekend book sales will go to keeping the event free to the public and help fund the Reading Rock Stars program and Texas Library Grants. However, books must be purchased from the Barnes & Noble Book Sales Tent in order to be signed, with the exception of one pre-owned book.

The schedule for Festival Weekend is filled with author read-alouds, book discussions, and panels. The Festival is also hosting almost 100 exhibitors that will have booths for attendees to look at. The Festival will have fun opportunities for people of all ages, ranging from elementary school children to adults, and an unimaginable amount of genres, from thrillers to cookbooks.

Ms. LaMaster emphasizes how important fundraising is when running a non-profit. “People don’t think about how expensive it can be to run a camp. We rely a lot on fundraising and donors so we can continue to give it back to the kids,” Ms. LaMaster said.

"I noticed on my way in that there was a girl and she was yelling at the police officer," London May '26 said. "You would think an altercation had happened because the police separated the parties."

In preparation for the upcoming RRISD elections, many community members have found themselves researching about and assessing the four propositions on the ballot. Each proposition provides a detailed breakdown of its diverse aims, and is allocated a set amount of money derived from the larger proposed bond.

As one of the most complicated stunts they perform, the Cheerleading team stacks on top of one another forming a pyramid with a Westwood ‘W’. “The pyramid was challenging because we had to put a lot of faith in each other to be able to throw Audri Moreno ‘27 high enough so she wouldn't hit Mia Zell ‘28 while flying over,” Cheerleader Jenna Hallidy ‘25 said. Although this new advanced routine heavily challenged the cheerleaders, they persevered to make the Pep Rally a success.
