TEDxYouth@Austin Registration Opens

transparentposterThroughout the world, TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) conferences are held as a platform for people to spread their ideas. On Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016 at Westlake High School from 1- 6 p.m., speakers from around the country and state will fly in for the TEDxYouth@Austin event. The 2015 theme for the event is FullCircle. The event is free for youth and $25 for adults. Participants are required to register beforehand here. The registration form only takes a few minutes to fill out, and the registration period only lasts a limited time. Register now to be eligible for a spot in the audience at the 2016 TEDxYouth@Austin event.

With the upcoming district election fast-approaching, students express feeling concerned and disoriented regarding their minimal role in the democratic process. Smiling brightly at a fundraiser, Ms. Linnie LaMaster stands with her teen volunteers for ATX Kids Club. Ms. LaMaster emphasizes how important fundraising is when running a non-profit. “People don’t think about how expensive it can be to run a camp. We rely a lot on fundraising and donors so we can continue to give it back to the kids,” Ms. LaMaster said.

The shooting took place in an H-E-B parking lot on Wednesday, Oct. 23. The scene involved police officers, H-E-B workers, and multiple parties. "I noticed on my way in that there was a girl and she was yelling at the police officer," London May '26 said. "You would think an altercation had happened because the police separated the parties."
Students Witness Shooter’s Escape
In preparation for the upcoming RRISD elections, many community members have found themselves researching about and assessing the four propositions on the ballot. Each proposition provides a detailed breakdown of its diverse aims, and is allocated a set amount of money derived from the larger proposed bond.

As one of the most complicated stunts they perform, the Cheerleading team stacks on top of one another forming a pyramid with a Westwood ‘W’. “The pyramid was challenging because we had to put a lot of faith in each other to be able to throw Audri Moreno ‘27 high enough so she wouldn't hit Mia Zell ‘28 while flying over,” Cheerleader Jenna Hallidy ‘25 said. Although this new advanced routine heavily challenged the cheerleaders, they persevered to make the Pep Rally a success.

Hi, I’m Emily, and I’m the Executive Editor of the Westwood Student Press. I love reading and designing, and I hate avocados. I always have music playing in the background, whether I’m doing homework or taking a nap.
