JV Softball Falls to McNeil 3-5
On Friday, April 8, the JV Softball team played against McNeil. The game ended with McNeil winning over the Lady Warriors 5-3 . The Lady Warriors kept the score close, almost overtaking McNeil in the last inning, but ultimately lost the game.
“I think we worked on some key points that we needed to work on and we’ll keep getting better,” Abbie Holden ‘19 said.
In the first inning, the pitcher, Nicole Duval ‘18, struck out two batters. The first inning ended with a score of 3-0, in favor of McNeil. In the second inning, Holden threw to Presley Meredith ‘18 on second base for an out. Duval also struck out a player, only allowing two runs. When the Lady Warriors went up to bat in the second inning, Meredith hit a run and stole home base, making that the first run of the game for the Lady Warriors. The second inning ended with McNeil leading 5-1.
“There were a lot of rough spots in the game, but we came out and fought and did the best we could,” Karina Guerra ‘17 said.
In the third inning, the Lady Warriors switched pitchers to Heather Gillmeister ‘18. In the third inning, the Lady Warriors worked together to help prevent any runs in the inning, keeping the score at 5-1. The Lady Warriors didn’t score either, but Alex Reece ‘18 had a run and stole second base, but the score stayed at 5-1 at the end of the third inning, McNeil still leading. In the fourth inning, Gillmeister struck out the first player and caught two balls, not allowing any scores once again. But at the bottom of the fourth inning, Alexandra Adame ‘17 and Melane Rivera ‘18 scored, pushing the score up to 5-3, but not being enough for the Lady Warriors to win.
“The game was good because we are improving a lot, and I scored for the first time, so it was special for me,” Alexandra Adame ‘17 said.

Jahangiri ultimately didn't achieve much success as a batter, but was part of crucial plays in the infield. “[We’ve] improved astronomically, it’s absurd,” Jahangiri said. “[Our] technique is on point, we know where the ball is going, we’re not being reactive, we’re being active.”](https://westwoodhorizon.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/IMG_1781-1-600x400.jpg)
