In their final home game against McNeil, the varsity softball team shut out the Mavericks 16-0 on Tuesday, April. 13. The Warriors have ended their three loss streak from weeks prior, and have gained new momentum to end the regular season.

“[We] just tried our hardest to stay out of our heads and stay focused on what we need to do and just make routine plays and get that taken care of,” Haley Boling ‘26 said.

The Warriors held a strong defense against the Mustangs in the opening of the game, keeping a steady pace. Leading the charge, Chloe DeLuna ‘26 gave consistent strikeouts that set the standard for the game.

“That was my best game, both pitching and hitting wise,” DeLuna said. ”It’s the last home game of the season, and I wanted to go all out, and give it everything I had.”

At the bottom of the first inning, the Warriors kept that standard with explosive offensive play. After a series of walks, Marisela Alba ‘29 hit a triple with bases loaded, immediately followed by a double from Kendall Brothers ‘27 to give the Warriors a 5-0 lead.

“[The bottom of the first] set the tone for the game,” Brothers said. “We stayed in it the entire time, and got the job done. It was a great last home game.”

After continuing to shut the Mavericks out with quick defensive plays, the Warriors kept offensive momentum when Karah Schatz ‘29 hit a home run down the middle of the field. Thanks to decisive stealing and consistent hits, the Warriors increased their lead to 14-0, scoring a substantial seven runs in the bottom of the third.

“It felt really good, just to see the ball fly out of the park,” Schatz said. “It gave our team momentum to get that seven run lead and finish the game strong.”

To end their defensive play, DeLuna caught a line drive down the middle, and Courtney Case ‘28 finished the game decisively by hitting a homerun in the left field, shutting out the Mavericks 16-0. The Warriors will now begin training for the 2026-2027 season.
