Dominating the field in style, the varsity baseball team took on the Manor Mustangs on Tuesday, March 24. With refined plays and consistent efforts, the Warriors ended up winning a decisive victory against the Mustangs in a 14-0 crush.
“Going into the game, I was expecting us to win by at least ten [runs], and [reflecting] after the game, I feel like we did our job,” Sterling Woodley ‘26 said.
The game got off to an explosive start, with the Warriors scoring eight runs in their first inning, followed up by another four in the second. This, combined with precise pitching that did not give up runs early, enabled the Warriors to take a quick lead.
“I feel that I hit very well,” Antonio Martinez ‘26 said. “I went for 2 or 3 of the plates, so it was a good day. I just have to be more patient at the plate.”
The early dominance was followed by a more reserved middlegame, with the Warriors snatching two runs in the third inning, and none in the fourth. However, despite the slowdown in runs being scored, the Warriors’ pitching lineup, led by seniors Nate Taparauskas and Killian Boyce Beene, ensured that Mustangs got no more runs, ultimately resulting in referees invoking the mercy rule in the fourth inning after the Warriors amassed a staggering 14 runs.
“We were playing a weaker team, so I just [did] my best to throw strikes,” Taparauskas said. “I felt like I did a good job of throwing strikes, but still need to continue working on getting all my pitches to be [equally] as effective.”
The game represents a dynamic start to the early season. However, the team is still cautious not to get complacent, recognizing that there is still a long way to go.
“[Though] I think we did great and played with intensity the entire game, we [still] really just need to work on consistency,” Woodley said.
The Warriors will next play Hutto in their next game at home on Friday, March 27.
