Parking Update for 2016-17 School Year

Rumors of changes to the parking policy have been swirling for months, but administration has finally released a statement regarding official changes for the 2016-17 school year. Principal Ms. Laurelyn Arterbury included the following in her weekly news update, citing Assistant Principal Mr. Heath Walz as the source of the statement:

Due to the renovations at Westwood High School, we will have more portable buildings in the front parking lot. Our parking spaces will be limited for the 2016-2017 school year. Seniors will have an opportunity to purchase a parking permit during textbook pick-up week August 17th- August 19th from (8:30 am – 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm ) in the Atrium, August 22nd (8:30 am – 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm) in the Atrium or during the first week of school August 23rd – August 26th(before or after school) in room D2201. Parking will be sold on a first come, first serve basis.

After Friday, August 26th, any remaining spaces in the main parking lot and/or our satellite parking lots (Satellite Parking: Tennis courts and Softball field lots) will be placed into a lottery for the Juniors. We will send a link to sign-up for the lottery on August 26th at 4:30 pm to the students gmail accounts. Students will have from August 26th to September 2nd to sign-up for the lottery. Juniors will receive the lottery form in the school email. They must sign-up using their school email account.

Lottery winners will receive notification with specific instructions and deadlines to obtain a parking permit for the main lot or satellite parking. Please pay close attention to the deadlines. If you miss the deadline, we will offer the parking space to the next student on the list.

The Parking Registration Form is available for you to print on the WHS website under Student Resources. Please complete the form and bring it with you to purchase your permit. You must have all documentation required to purchase your parking permit:

Valid Driver’s License
Proof of Insurance (student’s name must be on insurance card)
Vehicle Registration (if you do not have the form, take picture of sticker)
$25 Fee – payable in cash or check made payable to WHS

Change for Parking Violations starting August 2016:

1st Offense – warning sticker
2nd Offense – a wheel lock will be placed on the vehicle(a $30 fine will be assessed to remove the wheel lock)
3rd Offense – the vehicle will be towed
