Varsity Baseball Team Finds Success in Tournament
The varsity baseball team competed in a tournament that took place Feb. 23-25 on their home field. The Warriors played in six games total during the tournament. The tournament gave the team an opportunity to try out different lineups and practice against multiple teams.
The Warriors lost against Vandegrift (0-5), San Angelo (2-6), and Odessa (4-7). However, the team won in their games against Lubbock Coronado (11-7), Dallas Jesuit (4-3), and Austin LBJ (10-1).
“Overall I think it was a good first tournament. We could have played better in some games, but overall it was a good start to our season,” Reed Harrington ‘18 said. “It was really good for our confidence for the season.”
Highlights of the weekend games include home runs by Kody Clements ‘17 and Sam Zientek ‘18. The Warriors had successful pitching lead by Nolan Tenpas ‘17. The team also topped the previous state champions, Dallas Jesuit.
“I felt we had a great weekend as a team considering we beat the defending state champions, Dallas Jesuit,” Chad Dixon ‘18 said. “We really bonded together and will have a great season.”
The Warriors will continue their preseason play with another tournament on March 2-4 at the Westwood baseball fields. Go Wood.

Jahangiri ultimately didn't achieve much success as a batter, but was part of crucial plays in the infield. “[We’ve] improved astronomically, it’s absurd,” Jahangiri said. “[Our] technique is on point, we know where the ball is going, we’re not being reactive, we’re being active.”](https://westwoodhorizon.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/IMG_1781-1-600x400.jpg)
