To begin their series of games against McNeil High School, the varsity baseball team took on the Mavericks at home on Thursday, March 30. The boys were eager to compete against their rivals, but unfortunately fell short 3-7.

Beginning the game, Nolan Tenpas ‘17 pitched for the Warriors and quickly got McNeil batters out. In the bottom of the inning, the team easily got to base and Nick Williby ‘17 was able to score a run off of a good hit by Kody Clements ‘17.

The Warriors and Mavericks appeared to be evenly matched with a tied score of 3-3, however in the fourth inning the team began to slip. In the top of the inning, the Mavericks were able to score four runs off of pitchers Tenpas and Nick Manasso ‘18. After this the Warriors did not allow anymore runs, but also were not able to score any runs themselves. Despite playing with a positive attitude, they were unable to get the score up and lost 3-7.

“We could have definitely brought more energy in the dugout and on the field. Guys need to expect to make plays and be prepared for what’s thrown at the,” Manasso said. Being up and then losing the lead is tough, but we have to improve on not giving up.”

The Warriors will take on the Mavericks again on Friday, March 31 at McNeil beginning at 7 p.m.. Go Wood.
