The varsity softball team squared off against the Vista Ridge Rangers in windy conditions for their first district game of the 2020 season on Tuesday, Feb. 25. After much preparation from scrimmages with other schools and a tough tournament in Galveston, the Lady Warriors triumphed 7-5.

“I thought that we did a really awesome job last night. I think it was a really exciting game and everyone put a lot of effort and mental toughness to push us through to win the game. Everyone was really excited that we came back from being down and won it,” Eileigh Whyte ‘21 said.

Starting the game off, the visiting Rangers became the first to score with a two-RBI double and a RBI single but the Warriors responded back with a run from Quincy Jones ‘21 in the bottom of the first inning. Whyte held the Rangers to zero runs in the second inning with her tactical pitching followed by a strong defense. The Warriors pumped up their batting skills and managed to score three runs with RBIs from Whyte and Olivia Meyers ‘20. At the top of the fourth inning, the Lady Rangers managed to decrease the Warriors’ lead and tack on three more runs, but the Warriors quickly ended the final inning with three outs from three batters as the game concluded 7-5 for the Lady Warriors’ first district win.

The Lady Warriors will play against the Round Rock Dragons on Tuesday, March 3.
