When you hear the word “Zodiac” I bet the first idea that comes to your mind is your main sign, or your sun sign. In astrology, the sun is not the only sign that contributes to your individual dynamic. Instead, each planet controls a different aspect of your personality and collectively they work together to create the person you are. Your birth/natal chart is a graph of all the signs that make up your personality and what planet they each represent. Something amazing about the ten main “planets” that control us is that almost everyone has a different combination of signs ruling them making us all unique in different ways. Each planet has rulerships or “domicile signs” who are most at home in that characteristic. Sadly, the same is for “detriment signs” or signs who are uncomfortable and far from perfect in that sense of their personality. If you hold a domicile status within a planet, congratulations! Domicile statuses can lead to great fortune and luck in the given planet aspect of your life!

The Sun:

Leos, who rule the sun, strive to be the center of attention just as the sun is the center of our solar system. If your sun sign is in Leo, this could lead to an overall confidence many wish to obtain. The opposite is true as well, as Aquarius opposes Leo on the Zodiac spectrum. Aquarii tend to be more reserved and not as flamboyant as Leos.

The Moon:

Cancer rules the moon which is the “planet” of emotions. This explains why everyone considers Cancers to be over-emotional; it adds to their stereotype of leading with their heart, not their head. Capricorns, however, are not so good with emotions and may even close themselves off to prevent any feelings from messing with their routine schedule.

Mercury:

Mercury is the planet of communication and determines how well we can talk to others. Its rulers being Gemini and Virgo, if you are one of these two signs, you probably can stay calm in social settings! For Sagittarius and Pisces, this may not be so accurate. You may struggle with communication and words may not come as easily to you.

Venus:

As everyone knows Venus is the planet of love… and well, relationships. These relationships could be familial, platonic, or romantic. If you are Taurus or Libra you may be well-skilled in pleasing loved ones and have many relationships that depend on your talent in maintaining them. Scorpio and Aries oppose Taurus and Libra, making them two signs who may struggle to focus on relationships. As Aries is a fire sign this could be due to their aggressive nature and for Scorpio it may be a surplus of emotions coming from their water element.

Mars:

War and anger control Mars. This may sound scary and like a planet no one wants to be a part of, but its house rulers are actually skilled in containing their anger and remaining calm. Aries and Scorpio make up for what they lack in relationships by only unleashing their anger when they’re pushed over the edge. Sadly, Libra and Gemini are the complete opposite. Being air signs these two are known to be people-pleasers, so when combined with their struggle in handling anger they come off very passive aggressive which in some cases is even scarier than Aries and Scorpio’s directness.

Jupiter:

Growth thrives in its home of Jupiter, who guides us to maturity. Pisces and Sagittarius are fast-tracked on this path because they rule Jupiter; this means that any Pisces/Sagittarius you know is already fairly mature and level-headed. Gemini and Virgos, however, may take a little longer to achieve the growth they desire.

Saturn:

Saturn and Jupiter are hand-in-hand as the ringed planets determine our responsibility. Aquarius and Capricorn are two of the most responsible signs; this explains Capricorn’s stereotype of being good with money! Saturn opposes Cancer, a water sign, and Leo, a fire sign, which can give the two oppositions a sense of immaturity. This can easily be covered up, however, based on the rest of your birth chart.

Now, I bet you’re wondering, “What about Uranus, Neptune and Pluto?” Well, don’t worry, because Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are all “generational” planets. This means that the signs that rule Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto change in a given amount of years. Uranus’ sign changes every seven years, Neptune’s changes every 14 years, and Pluto changes anywhere between 12 and 31 years. Currently, and at least until 2025, Neptune is in Pisces, Uranus is in Aquarius (accompanied by a Taurus retrograde or “backwards motion,”) and Pluto is in Scorpio. The Taurus retrograde can mean that at this time you may struggle with remaining relaxed as much change is coming your way. Oppositions aren’t really considered when talking about generational planets as there is no right or wrong answer to how a generation should act.
