Boys’ Golf Participates in First Vandegrift Invitational

Braving against the intense winds and chilly weather, five boys represented the golf team at the Vandegrift Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 18. The players saw success as they competed against schools including Westlake and Lake Travis.

“The conditions were a little tough, and we only got to play 27 holes because the play was really slow,” Ryan Lee ’25 said. “Everyone still did really well.”

The competing players obtained the following scores:

Luke Hagan ’23: 74-36

Jonathan Kim ’24: 80-42

Austin Skierski ’25: 79-43

Ryan Lee ’25: 83-38

Jake Bialek ’23: 86-44

The team will next take on another Vandegrift Invitational on Friday, Nov. 4.

On the green, Jonathan Kim 24 aims his ball before taking his final swing. Although Kim struggled with the first two holes, he ended up with a total score of 76, only two points away from the winning score of 74. I was just trying to enjoy the whole round, Kim said. I didnt think too much about my score, and tried to focus on the holes I had left.

Crouching down, Marlene Luo 25 carefully aims her ball towards the hole. Luos team, the Westwood Girls 2nd team, started out on the 8th hole, with Luo hitting a birdie on the 1st. It was very fun spending time with our teammates and working together to get a good score, Luo said.

As the seniors are walking on the field one last time, the crowd rallies to cheer them on in their final high school game. Bittersweet, exciting, sad, inspiring, I dont really know how to describe it Abby Winkleman 24 said. Before and after the game, each and every warrior, in the crowd or on the field, was given the chance to celebrate our outgoing senior class one last time.
