Freshman Volleyball played their last home game of the season against Cedar Ridge on Tuesday, Oct. 24 and despite fighting through until the very end, they were defeated 2-1, ending the season on a low note.

The Warriors started out with a strong first set, holding the lead and ultimately winning 25-21. Many of the players stood out for their strong hits and kills, and before the 10 point mark, both Sophia Nikazam ‘27 and Madelyn Ivy ‘27 had scored an ace with others following in the latter half of the set. Even though the Raiders started to catch up at the end bringing the score from 24-16 to 24-21, the Warriors were able to finish off the set with a netball from the Raiders.

“We’ve been really working on our off blocker defense to make sure we don’t let any tips drop,” Nikazam said. “I’m really excited to see how the team plays and hopefully bring home a win. We beat them in two sets last time so I’m hoping the same thing happens.”

The Warriors started out the second set falling slightly behind but made every effort to get back into the game. The team huddled up and talked it out, getting their heads back in the game. Even though they didn’t come out on top, they were able to close the gap by a large margin and ended the set 25-18.

“We definitely just need to stay focused and make sure we all are in the right positions,” Nikazam said. “Whenever something doesn’t go perfectly, we just need to reset because we can definitely win this game. If we stay on top, it will be easy.”

The team continued to give their all for the last game of the year, attempting to keep their winning streak alive, but the game ultimately ended in a 25-19 loss. For the duration of the third set, even while they were down, the Warriors continued to make plays with strong serves from Chiara Kanazawa ‘27 and many ups by Nikazam.

While the season is over, the Warriors will have one more tie-breaker match on Friday, Oct. 28 to determine a district champion.
