Twilight: Ultimate Ranking

Twilight%3A+Ultimate+Ranking

Twilight, a book series written by Stephanie Meyers, quickly became a staple in American pop culture when the first book was released in 2005. However, the 2008 film adaptation enthralled a whole new audience of fans. The series follows human 17-year-old Bella Swan and her enchanting love story with vampire Edward Cullen. From werewolf and vampire love triangles to themes of adventure and mortality, Twilight captures an abundance of shared teenage experiences with a twist. The last movie was released in 2012, concluding the end of the franchise. However, the end of the series didn’t stop the flood of fan wars and disagreements about the best Twilight movie. So, let’s discuss the series’ worst and best moments.

  1. Twilight – Twilight introduces a new perspective to film, catching the eye of viewers with its distinct blue filtering effect and indie aesthetic, something unexpected for a YA book adaptation. The movie encapsulates a variety of iconic moments such as the creation of the sport of vampire baseball. This fan-favorite activity created a frenzy among Twilight enthusiasts, inspiring them to play baseball in the rain while copying outfits and poses from the movie scene. Most importantly, the film transforms the forbidden lovers trope into a profound lesson about the importance of true love.
  2. The Twilight Saga: New Moon – Although the movie’s plot deviates from the expectations of many viewers, as Bella slowly becomes more involved with Jacob Black and the wolf pack, the movie’s combination of a gloomy aesthetic and well-known soundtrack puts this movie in second place. For example, the scene depicting the flashing of seasons when Edward leaves Bella perfectly sets the tone with the song Possibility by artist Lykke Li.
  3. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse – With a clear cut love triangle, this movie showcases the strain of being in love with two people, a scenario that captivates  viewers. The romantic tension and the build-up to this point does not fail to exceed expectations, with many moments of closeness between Bella and Jacob as well as a beautiful snowy film framing that isa visual romanticization of winter to enrapture the audience. This movie gives “Team Jacob” fans exactly what they are looking for.
  4. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn part 2 – Ending the series, this movie provides a sense of closure to the saga and adds the stunning visual element of the iconic meadow of violets. However, with a drawn-out storyline, the only redeeming moment throughout this film is the highly anticipated fight scene, which shocked viewers since it never actually happened. While this movie has the best character looks and costumes, that simply isn’t enough to save the messiness of the plot.
  5. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn part 1 –  This movie primarily introduces a plot twist the majority of the audience rooted heavily against – the addition of Bella’s pregnancy which dilutes all the characters’ stories. Bella is not the main focus of the plot which now entices the audience into caring more about her child than the character they grew to love over the past four movies. Without the plot people knew and loved, there wasn’t a reason to continue watching this extensive series, making it the worst movie in the franchise.
