On Tuesday, Nov. 7,  JV women’s basketball played an intense game against Killeen High school. The Lady Warriors pushed hard, trying to keep pace with the Kangaroos through the entire game, but fell just short, losing 51-36.

In the first period the Lady Warriors went down early, but not by much, as the Warriors worked to intercept the ball during transitional periods, and fastbreaks which resulted in multiple shots by Holly Vessa ‘26 and other Lady Warriors on the attack.

“I’m really excited to start this season and get closer to all of my teammates,” Abigail Anderson ‘26 said. “I feel like we all have different strengths so we can work together and have a good season.”

The Lady Warriors went into the second quarter strong with a slew of interceptions, followed by free throws, and important 2 point plays by Ella Steinheider ’27 and Hope Davis ‘27. Despite the success of the period, the Warriors were still down 23-11 at the end of the first half, looking to make a second half comeback.

“I felt like obviously we could have played better but I was still optimistic and felt like there was still a chance for us,” Ali Hight ‘26 said. “I think that when we communicate and work as a team and not individuals we play better.”

The Warriors took on the second half with renewed energy, kicking the third period off with a valuable basket by Davis followed by a clean layup from a pass by Abby Thailing ‘26. Finally towards the end of the period, Steinheider snatched away the ball in a messy transition from the Kangaroos making an easy 2 point play, ending the third quarter 39-28. As the final quarter started the lady warriors put up many 3 point shots by both Hight and Maya Alas ‘27. However, their defense was unable to contain the Kangaroos enough to close the gap fully ending the game in a 51-36 win for Killeen.

“Scoring a basket is a really electric feeling and because basketball is a really fast paced game whenever you score or get close to scoring it’s like a burst of energy,“ Alas said. “I would say the game went pretty well, we are still figuring eachother out because it’s only the second game of our season so we still need time to gel.”

The Lady Warriors will return Tuesday, Nov 21, to play Georgetown Eagles at Georgetown High School.
