On Satuday, Jan. 6, 30 band students auditioned at the All-Region auditions. Students practiced hard to advance to All-State. “I practiced a lot, around a couple hours a week,” Neel Kotichintala ’25 said.

Competing against the best in the area, 30 Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) Area qualifiers auditioned for the TMEA All-State band on Saturday, Jan. 6. Out of the 30 that auditioned, eight advanced to All-State, the highest level of the TMEA auditions.

For high school musicians, All-State is one of the most significant achievements with the audition etudes being chosen from professional-level books for each individual instrument.

“It’s tough, the music is difficult, you go against some of the best people in the state, but if you practice, it’ll make a difference,” percussionist Neel Kotichintala ‘25 said.

The TMEA All-State concert will occur on Feb. 10 in San Antonio, Texas.

Outside of the newsroom, I am most likely cherishing time with friends, watching sit-coms (probably Modern Family!), or sustaining my unhealthy coffee addiction.
