Need to know what to eat at the end of a long day of school? Westwood has many food spots— ranging from P.Terry’s to the chaotic food courts of H-Mart. However, some spots simply outshine others both in food quality and location. Read this ranking to find out which spots are the best!
- Cabo Bobs. What else is there to say about Cabo Bobs? It’s an icon, even outside of Westwood. The level of customization you have with burritos makes each Cabo trip unique— or, you order the same thing every time (like me). Either way, the quality of food at Cabo is consistently excellent. Out of all the food places in the ranking, it has the best quality food. It’s hard to critique anything besides the spice level of the sauces. The “Xxtra Hot Sauce” is not really “XXtra hot”, it’s more mild than anything. If you want spicy at Cabo, you have to put enormous amounts of the sauce, but it just drowns out the flavor. In addition, it’s just down the road. For student drivers, it’s the number one spot.
- Canes. Canes, it’s self-explanatory. Crispy chicken, and the famous “Canes sauce” carry Canes far in this ranking. It has lightning-fast service, and it’s a short five-minute drive from Westwood. The shopping center, Canes, is close to makes this spot almost perfect. It’s near Lakeline mall and the Alamo Drafthouse, making Cane’s the best spot for a pre-movie meal or post-hangout dinner. The only flaw with Canes, however, is the road it is on. Lakeline Blvd is more often than not highly congested with traffic, making the drive stressful for students.
- P. Terry’s. P.Terry’s is Westwood’s signature hangout spot. The close distance from Westwood, good food, and interesting shakes of the month make it the most popular spot to go to. Whenever you have an after school event, the default is always “let’s go to P.Terry’s.” However, that’s also its biggest downfall, which is why it is number two on this list. During busy hours like after-school or during lunch, it can get overbearingly crowded. It becomes hard to find a table for you and your friends, and if you do find a table, it’s dirty nine times out of ten. In addition, the consistency of the food isn’t there. There’s a 50/50 chance your fries are incredibly soggy and greasy or crispy and perfectly salted, which is why it’s at number three in this list.
- Thundercloud. Thundercloud subs, has excellent sandwiches in general, putting it comfortably at number three in this list. Plus, it’s just as accessible as P. Terry’s, since Thundercloud is quite literally right next door. However, it doesn’t get as crowded, you’re getting the same quality food, and it’s sometimes even faster than P. Terry’s. The size of Thundercloud is noticeably smaller than P. Terry’s though. There are only a couple tables inside, and by the off chance that it is crowded, it feels even more cramped than P.Terry’s.
- Mojo Coffee. For drivers, Mojo’s Coffee is notably the most popular spot for students. It’s a short drive down Lake Creek Parkway and has a wide variety of drinks. The wide secret menu makes each trip to Mojo’s interesting, because seemingly, there is something new every time. Mojo has fast service, typically taking less than a minute to order and have the drink ready. You’ll always see Westwood kids carrying their Mojo around, making it a Westwood icon.
