Pushing their physical and mental limits after a long day of school at the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Region 26 contest, members of the Westwood Warrior Band qualified for the UIL Area D Marching Band Competition on Tuesday, Oct. 14. In order to advance, the band had to get superior scores from all judges.
“We had a decent run,” Rachel Zhu said. “After a long day of school it was a little hard for the band to focus during warm up. I think we can work on that, but overall I’m really proud of what we put on the field.”
The band is a consistent area qualifier, but has only made it to the UIL State Marching Band Contest three times in school history, so they hope to add another state plaque to the wall this year.
“Making state would be an amazing way to end my last marching season,” Zhu said. “Everyone has put in so much work and dedication, I really think we can do it. There is definitely room for improvement, but I think we’re in a really good spot right now.”
The Warrior Band will compete next at the Bands of America (BOA) Waco regional on Saturday, Oct. 18th.
