Westwood Horizon

Mr. & Miss Westwood 2015

Congratulations to Isabella Sanchez ’15 and Austin Cotton ’15, who were selected by the faculty as the ideal representatives of Westwood High School. The following was read aloud at the Senior Awards ceremony last month.

Sanchez is involved with PROS, FCA, flag football, soccer, and Mobile Loaves and Fishes.  She also volunteers for Habitat for Humanity and tutors children and babysits.  She lists her hobbies as drawing, eating, playing sports, being outside and working well with kids. Sanchez will be attending the University of Texas at San Antonio where she will play soccer and study kinesiology to become a physical therapist.  Her role models are her parents because they have taught her to live life to the fullest and never stop chasing her dreams. Her personal motto is “Don’t let other people define who you are. Be yourself.”

Cotton is a four year Westwood Varsity Golf member and has served as captain for two of those years.  He indicates his hobbies are golf, hunting, fishing and archery. Cotton will play golf at Baylor University and plans to be on a professional golf tour after college. His role model is his dad, Jimbo, because he has made Cotton into the man he is today.  His personal motto is “Everything happens for a reason.”

Lanie Catuogno, Faculty Adviser
Ms. Cat here. I've taught journalism and advised the Westwood Student Press since 2013. Before that, I taught graphic design and advised yearbook staffs in Texas and California for 20 years. My undergrad degree is in Plan II Liberal Arts from the University of Texas at Austin, and I have a Master's of Education in Reading. I was an ASNE (American Society of News Editors) Reynolds High School Journalism Fellow in 2013. I earned my CJE (national certification as a journalism educator) in 2016. I was proud to be honored with the Edith Fox King award for journalism teachers in 2018. I love my job and it makes me especially happy when the newsroom is hopping and all the student journalists are busy following up on stories. If you are looking for my teacher website, click here.
