As the spooky season nears towards the end of this month, Halloween decorations start appearing in homes, classrooms, cars, and various other places across Westwood.

Many classrooms at Westwood have been decorated with ghosts, bats, jack-o-lanterns, cobwebs, and more to celebrate the much anticipated holiday. Several teachers work hard to replicate the ambiance of Halloween throughout the month of October.

When I decorate my classroom, the holiday[itself] is not specifically important. What I love about decorating my classroom is that it allows for new visual stimuli throughout the year. I also feel like having different decorations keeps the classroom atmosphere fun and that is very important to me,” Psychology teacher Ms. Jennifer Scazzero said.

In the shared girl’s locker room in the new dance hall, SunDancers decorated the walls with skeletons doing the splits and other dance-related poses, cobwebs, and a bright ‘Happy Halloween’ banner. They also stuck playful stickers to the mirrors in the room.

“We decided to decorate the locker room because it’s one of our traditions every year and we weren’t able to do it last year because of COVID. Now that we have our new space, our new locker room, we were able to go all out. We collectively brought in a ton of decorations and we were able to have a lot of fun with it,” Bella Friedrich ‘22 said.

As it gets closer and closer to Halloween, more and more decorations are lining the hallways and classrooms in anticipation of the beloved holiday, creating a spooky but festive atmosphere across the school.
