Fresh off of a victory, the varsity boys’ soccer team defeated the Cedar Ridge Raiders 3-0 in their second district game on Friday, Jan. 16, at the Warrior Bowl. The team’s preparation in preseason games and practices paid off in their strong performance against the Raiders.

“I think it was a good game. We got a good result and played well against a pretty solid team,” Beau Bryant ‘26 said. “We reviewed the game film from last year’s [game against Cedar Ridge] and looked at their style of play and used that to prepare.”

At kickoff, the Warriors gained possession of the ball and retained it for the first few minutes of the match. The team moved up and down the field, and successfully kept the ball from the Raiders. After the Warriors made a few attempted shots, an assist from Bryant allowed Rodrigo Garcia ‘26 to sink in a shot.

“I played a deep pass into Rodrigo, and he did really well and beat his player, and he scored,” Bryant said.

As the clock winded down to 40 seconds left in the half, Aaron Charcas ‘28 scored a goal, bringing the score to 2-0. The lead helped boost the Warriors’ confidence and kept up the energy on the field.

“Once we get the first [goal], we can just find a rhythm and keep going and score a lot more,” Bryant said. “I think the first half was better for us, and we got the lead.”

The second half showcased the Warriors’ defense skills as they stopped every attempt the Raiders made to drive towards the goal. They utilized strong communication and stayed vigilant to keep Cedar Ridge from scoring.

“We defended pretty well. We didn’t let in any goals, and they had I think only maybe one [attempted] shot, so I think that’s really good,” Bryant said.

Throughout the relatively calm second half, Westwood narrowly missed a few close shots, before Charcas scored for a second time with just four minutes left in the game. He brought the final score to 3-0 and topped off the Warriors’ victory.

“[In] the second half, we kind of played a little safer and just wanted to hold onto the lead,” Bryant said. “I’m happy with [our] performance.”

The Warriors will next take on Manor on Tuesday, Jan 20, at Manor High School at 7:30 p.m.
