Utterly demolishing the Manor Mustangs, the varsity girls soccer team unleashed a powerful bout of sheer aggression to win their second home game 10-0 on Tuesday, January 20. Continuing their streak of limiting opposing goals to zero on home turf, the Warriors’ raw intensity and humbling outmaneuvering of the Mustangs brought the game to a close 20 minutes before the timer ran out.
“I think [the goal was] to keep possession and just not score 20 goals on them,” Magnolia Mcbrearty ‘28 said.
Exhibiting a dominant offense right off the bat, the Warriors showcased a mesh of individual and collective targeting of Mustang defense, rapidly evading them to allow for Julia Ziegler ‘27 to swoosh an easy first goal into the net. Building off of her own wave of momentum, Ziegler rushed down the field to score the second goal of the night quickly after her first. As the Warriors swiftly found their feet on the field, the Mustangs became intimidated as they attempted to ramp up a shaky defense, headed by their goalie, who stopped an incoming onslaught of Warrior goal attempts.
The Warriors siphoned off each other, bringing a collective rush of aggression towards a teetering Mustang defense. Key players like Ziegler, Adriana Cheng ‘26, Natalie Safarik ‘26, and Kensie Maynes ‘27 were instrumental in racking up points on the board respectively, bringing the score at the end of the first half to a dooming 6-0.
“It was really good being able to try playing new people,” Mcbrearty said.
The Warriors started the second half with power and continued vigorous offense scoring two goals within the first few minutes of the half. Ziegler kept momentum, scoring her third goal of the game with 31 minutes left on the clock. Holding the ball in their possession, the Warriors kept strong communication and teamwork With 20 minutes left in the half the Warriors mercy ruled manor ending the game 10-0.
“[We wanted] to hold the ball more than to try to shoot because we beat them 10-0 so we didn’t want to keep scoring on them,” Fiona Giannetti ‘29 said. “Our goal was to not let them score once.”
The Warriors will have their next home game at 7:30 at the Warrior Bowl on Friday, Jan. 30, against the Round Rock Dragons.
