Continuing their winning streak, the varsity boys’ soccer team shut out the Stony Point Tigers on Tuesday, Feb. 3, at the Warrior Bowl. Westwood ended triumphant with a final score of 3-0.
“[When we played Stony Point] last year, I remember scoring and we won 7-0,” Valentin Lobos ‘26 said. “We just brought that to this game too.”
After a kickoff by Jack Cox ‘26, the Warriors took the ball and immediately headed towards the Tigers’ goal. They maintained possession of the ball for the majority of the first half, fighting tough defense by the Tigers. Multiple close shots had the Warriors’ fans on the edge of their seats, before Lobos secured their first goal of the night.
“[My] highlight of the game was definitely scoring our [first] goal, because I don’t really score often,” Lobos said. “Scoring first brings up all our confidence.”
Following that high, Westwood continued playing strong and allowed Aaron Charcas ‘28 the chance to land a goal just minutes following the first goal.
“I felt pretty good [about the game],” Charcas said. “I had a good start. I jumped off the bench, scored a goal three minutes into the game. I received the ball, did a half turn, and then I took a shot and it went in.”
As the clock ran down to end the first half, the Warriors stayed vigilant and prevented Stony Point from holding the ball for long. The score was 2-0 as halftime began, with Westwood celebrating their lead and ready to continue dominating in the second half.
“The first half was really tough in the beginning, but towards the end, [we] really shaped it up for the second half,” Lobos said.
As soon as the Tigers kicked off the ball for the second half, the Warriors immediately carried the same intensity they had held throughout the first half. Many players displayed impressive footwork to keep the ball from the Tigers.
After intense back and forth play, Santiago Pena ‘26 scored the last goal of the game ten minutes into the second half. For much of the rest of the game, Westwood remained in control of the ball and took many different shots on offense; flipping to the defensive side, Aiden Shen ‘26 had multiple crucial defensive plays to help solidify the Warriors shut out.
“I feel like we started joking around the second half, and we added in all the subs,” Charcas said. “[Our coach told us] not to keep our heads down, just to keep going because anytime the game could turn around. When we have at least a 2 goal lead, technically the game [is] over but we still put in the effort.”
The Warriors will go up against the Vandegrift Vipers at Vandegrift on Friday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m.
