JV orange boys soccer played against the Cedar Ridge Raiders in the rainy weather on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at the Warrior Bowl. After tons of effort, the tough battle ended in a 1-1 tie.
“[We were surprised by the other team’s] aggressiveness and how they came ready,” Abhinay Laggeri ’28 said.
At the beginning, the game went back and forth between both sides as the ball continued to get intercepted by defense. The Warriors soon took a stride and attempted the first tough push against the Raider’s defense.
Eventually, the Raiders managed to reach the Warriors goal and earned their first point. This, however, didn’t stop the Warriors from making further efforts in changing the momentum of the game.
“[The toughest part of the game] was just being able to bounce back from going down so early,” Riley Ang ’27 said.
As the Raiders tried to continue their pushes, the Warrior’s defense stayed strong, making sure the Raiders wouldn’t score another goal. Even when the Raiders got close to the Warrior goal, it ended in another change of tide with the Warriors gaining possession of the ball. The first half closed with the Warriors trailing 1-0.
“We thought we were the better team and we didn’t expect them as much,” Laggeri said. “We didn’t start off the game great, but as the game went on, we came on better and made a new plan. [During halftime, the coach emphasized] composure mainly.”
In the second half of the game, the Warriors and Raiders continued to play in the drizzling weather. The Raider’s aggressive play from the first half, did not trickle into their play style in the second half. The second half saw new patterns as the Warriors claimed dominating possessions in the second half.
In the final ten minutes of the game, the Warriors pushed through the Raider’s defense to allow Alex Chan ’28 to score a critical goal for the Warriors, tying the Warriors 1-1. As time was running out, the Raiders made a final attempt in the last two minutes, with one of them almost allowing another goal for the Raiders, but evidently was blocked by Emmett Allen ’28.
“You don’t get to score a lot, and I got to save us from losing,” Chen said. “The ball was just in front of me [and] I just hit it.”
The Warriors will play the McNeil Mavericks next on Friday, Feb. 13, at the Warrior Bowl.
