Must Watch Movie Block Busters of 2017

Welcome to 2017. It’s a brand new year with a brand new list of movies. Even if you’ve made a New Year’s resolution to limit the number of hours you spend on Netflix or in theaters, you should make several exceptions to that growing list of yours, including taking the time to anticipate these future-to-be big hits:

1. The Fate of the Furious: If you thought that the seventh installment of Fast Furious was the perfect ending to the series, the producers beg to differ. Although this movie is set to come out on April 14, the movie trailer has already been viewed over 13 million times and is hinted to be one of the most expensive films to produce in the series. The plot appears to revolve around Dom, who was seduced into a world of crime he just can’t escape. While overcoming betrayals and trials set before them, the rest of the crew must do their best to not only bring Dom back into the family, but to also strengthen their relationships with one another. Judging by the trailers and released pictures, this movie seems to be best for those who enjoy both vengeance and pure action.

2. Beauty and the Beast: Ever since its trailer release in early December 2016, this movie has gained widespread attention for its remake of the traditional Disney film. This new rendition is rated as one of the top 10 most anticipated films of 2017 and features the lovely Emma Watson as Belle. Similar to the original storyline, the movie features Belle, who is taken prisoner by the Beast in his castle in exchange for the freedom of her father Maurice. She not only befriends the castle’s enchanted staff, but she also learns to look beyond the Beast’s appearance to recognize the true heart he has. Set to be released on March 17, Beauty and the Beast is expected to be a big hit worldwide.

3. Justice League: Not a Marvel movie but equally up to par, this new DC Comics movie features a team of metahumans striving to combat injustices on earth. Although we don’t know what they’re going to face or what they intend to do, the superheros, consisting of Batman, Wonder Woman, Cyborg, the Flash, and Aquaman, appear to be fighting an evil character called Steppenwolf, who “is hunting for Three Mother Boxes on Earth” (Wikipedia). Details are still yet to be released, but the trailers have promised an action packed and fan-favorite movie.

4. Transformers: The Last Knight: As a huge Michael Bay fan, I can’t express how excited I was when I first learned that there was another installment to the Transformers series. Like all the other movies set to be released later this year, there is not much context to go off of; the trailers did, however, show Optimus Prime searching for the Quintessons, the beings that were believed to be responsible for the Transformer race. Unfortunately, much to the shock of the audience, the trailers also show Optimus Prime as an antagonist, who not only attacks the civilians but also his fellow (and fan-favorite) Autobot, Bumblebee. The production cost for this movie is a whopping $260 million, implying that the movie intends to maintain its reputation for massive explosions and eye-popping graphics.

5. Rings (2017 film): Based on a film set 13 years ago, Rings intends to bring those haunting memories back to the present. The movie focuses on a girl named Julia, who becomes worried for her boyfriend, Holt, when he explores the dark urban legend of a mysterious video said to kill the watcher seven days after viewing. She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and when doing so, discovers a horrifying truth: there’s a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before. Confusing as it sounds, Rings is nonetheless known for its terrifying plots, and its previous film was ranked one of the top 10 scariest movies of the year. If you have a strong heart and are willing to sacrifice nights of sleep, check this movie out in theaters on February 3.

6. The Lego Batman Movie: A fun, PG version of the original Batman movie, The Lego Batman Movie maintains the traditional storyline of defeating his archenemy, Joker. But, to add a twist to the plot, Batman is accompanied by a female police officer (a.k.a. Batwoman) and Dick Grayson (a.k.a Robin), characters who add humor to the supposedly heavy story. Through their assistance, Batman learns the importance of teamwork and friendship in hopes of saving Gotham City. The new Lego movie is set to be released on February 10, where both children and adults alike will witness a much anticipated collaboration between the renown DC Comics and Warner Bros.

7. Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2: The prequel to this movie was one of the biggest hits of 2014, earning more than $700 million. The most recent film, confirmed to be released on May 5, this movie takes place two months after the first film. The Guardians are seen traveling through the cosmos as one happy family and appear to be trying to help Peter Quill learn more about his true parentage. In addition to all of the familiar characters, Groot, who died to save the Guardians from a crash, is seen to be reincarnated as a tiny version of the giant tree. He and Rocket, the racoon with a gun and a bad temper, serve as the main icons of the soon-to-be-released movie, a duo that fans cannot wait to see back in the front of action.
