Lowering to the ground Harlow Hernandez ’27 prepares to receive a ball flying over the net. The Lady Warriors worked extensively in practice to improve their offensive form.

On Tuesday Sept. 5 the JV white volleyball team completed a clean sweep of the St. Stephen’s Spartans in a game that was not actually supposed to happen. The JV team played the Freshman Spartans while the Freshman team played the JV Spartans who also took home the win for Westwood. The Lady Warriors closed out the game in just two short sets, with the first set being a relatively quick victory 25-7. St Stephen’s brought more intensity in the second set with a back and forth beginning, however after a quick timeout the Warriors took back the game, and finished out the second set with a wide lead of 25-11.

“I was impressed that our freshman team beat their JV team,” Coach Brooke Kobren said. “ It was an accident that this happened, it wasn’t planned.”

Freshman team or not, the Warriors  put their best foot forward through the mix up and have been playing tough volleyball throughout this young season. Moreover, to start this season the team has been working on getting to know each other and understand each person’s playing style.

“The start of our season has been going pretty well,” Jazmin Gomez ‘26 said. “We are just still trying to learn our lineup and which lineup we should use.”

The Lady Warriors will play again Friday, Sept. 8 traveling to Vandegrift to take on the Vipers in a conference matchup.
