Settling in with their snacks, French Club members watch “Pink Panther: A Pink Christmas”. Officers planned this event for a month, and were dedicated to execute it before midterms week. “[The cartoons were] really comedic,” French Club Member Bella Yi ’26 said. “I like the sort of ‘cartoony’ videos with jokes in [them], and I think it’s entertaining because you don’t really typically watch that at this age.”

With snacks galore and a vast selection of holiday cartoons, on Friday, Dec. 8, members of French Club gathered in Mme Harwick’s classroom after school to relax before midterms.

The officer team worked on planning the meeting a month in advance to ensure the event would run smoothly.

“Normally for French club meetings, we’ve always kind of recycled past years [ideas], but this was our first original take on it,” French Club President Shivani Kondubhatla ‘25 said.

From creating graphics and posters, sending emails, and collecting food, the officers were determined to execute the event.

“[We wanted to] make sure people would stay, interact, and just have a good place to reach out and to relax before finals and all of that chaos,” Kondubhatla said.

Despite the level of planning that went into the meeting, the officer team encountered difficulties when they realized the streaming service they planned on using was blocked. However, the club managed to find a series of festive fifties cartoons that everyone enjoyed.

“I think despite today’s technical difficulties, it was a fun time,” French Club member Bella Yi ‘26 said. “I got to talk with two of my friends, and there was good food, and I had a lot of fun meeting with people.”

Following the technical issues, the club members settled in to watch old Christmas specials, such as Pink Panther: A Pink Christmas.

“[The cartoons were] really comedic,” Yi said. “I like the sort of ‘cartoony’ videos with jokes in [them], and I think it’s entertaining because you don’t really typically watch that at this age.”

While the meeting was an exercise in flexibility for the officers, attendees managed to come together and enjoy a moment of fun before their exams the week ahead.

“It was very tough, but I think with everyone being a good sport and supportive about it, we were able to just play some cartoons,” Kondubhatla said. “It was just nice for everyone to be so open about us making these changes and improvising, and I did have a good time watching them because it was nice to have a little throwback.”

French Club will have its next meeting this January, in Mme Harwick’s room. The date and time will be announced in the upcoming Student Council slideshow.
