In spirit of the International Day of Action for Academic Integrity, students celebrated Academic Integrity week through dress-up days on Tuesday, Oct. 14, to Friday, Oct. 17, organized by Student Council (StuCo) and faculty. Each day presented a new costume challenge. For each theme, participants were given a chance to get a ticket from their Flex teacher to submit for daily prize drawings in the library.
Starting the week off on a sleepy Tuesday, the theme encouraged students to sport their comfiest pajamas. Rebekah Hatala ‘27 showed up in her coziest outfit: a snug grey shirt and blue pants with colorful designs.
“I picked out the most comfortable outfit I had,” Hatala said. “The shoes were definitely a part of it, so the colors match.”
As the official International Day of Action for Academic Integrity, Wednesday brought students to the hallways as they fiercely competed in “Rock Paper Scissors” while wearing jerseys.
“I surrounded my outfit around my T-shirt because we had to wear a jersey,” Kymberlynn Tribou ‘28 said. “It was good because it’s pink, and on Wednesdays we wear pink. I personally like the dress-up days. I’m really excited for tomorrow because I’m going to bring a suitcase.”
A creative spin on standard dress-up themes, the theme for Thursday was for students to wear anything but a backpack. Students brought inventiveness and creativity to this theme: some brought market bags or cardboard boxes to hold their school supplies, while others went all out, bringing whole shopping carts, garbage cans, and game boxes.
“I picked my favorite board game, which is Jumanji,” Seljan Guliyeva ‘28 said. “I originally wanted to bring my chair that opens. It was a small stool with an opening place where you can put some stuff in, but it was too big. I think it’s really fun how high school is doing these games, and how we can win stuff, especially on the week that is really draining where you have a lot of tests. This activity makes it more fun and relaxing.”
The final day of Academic Integrity week ushered in the famed and viral color wars. Each grade came together to wear their respective colors: red for freshmen, blue for sophomores, black for juniors, white for seniors, and orange for staff.
“I think the dress up days are really cool,” Hatala said. “They really show academic integrity.”
